In the tradition of great social media challenges, a new trend has descended upon the masses, and no one even had to get soaked with ice water or eat a spoonful of cinnamon for us to enjoy it.

On June 20, Slovakian fitness enthusiast Roman Kambur posted a video of himself kicking the cap off of a water bottle:

Slowly, it became a trend among fitness influencers and martial artists to post attempts of the move, and then tag others to suggest they try too. And on June 25, martial arts master and Taekwondo champ Farabi Davletchin posted an Instagram of him absolutely decapitating a water bottle:

Crucially, Davletchin punctuated his post by tagging action movie star Jason Statham and MMA icon Conor McGreggor. And after a few days…

And…

Since then, the #BottleCapChallenge has spread like a red mark after a swift kick to the cheek. Here's movie star and martial artist Donnie Yen completely destroying a bottle, blindfolded:

Some celebrities outside the martial arts community also got in on the trend, like singer-songwriter John Mayer:

And fashion designer Errolson Hugh:

Celebrities are cool and all, but the trend began with a normal dude1, and it shall end with normal dudes. Look at all the insane ways non-famous people can frick up a bottle cap:

Gosh dang, look at this guy's hat:

Stuntwoman Caitlin Dechelle proves women can jump in on the trend too:

And if there were ever any doubts, this woman sealed the deal:

People are amazing, and bottle caps better watch out.

We think. The good people at Mashable (H/T!) couldn't trace the challenge any further back than Roman Kambur, and we couldn't either.
